This is the story of how Perseus defeated Medusa and how Pegasus sprouted out of Medusa. Let's begin the story!!!
Once upon a time, in a castle far, far away, a little baby named Perseus was born. His parents, Queen Danae and Lord Zeus were overjoyed. But the Queen's father, Acrisius, the king of Argos, was told by the oracle of Delphi that his own grandson would kill him one day. Scared of his destiny, he decided to tossed his daughter and grandson in a wooden chest and threw it in the ocean. To keep his wife and son safe, Zeus directed the waters of the ocean to guide them to a small island in Serfifos where a local couple adopted them, the man being the brother of the king of the island.
Perseus grew into a strong and confident man. The king, Polydecets, wanted Queen Danae to become his wife. But knowing that he couldn't marry her with Perseus by her side, he decided to not only send him away, but give him a dangerous mission .The king asked Perseus to bring him the head of Medusa.
Medusa had two other sisters but she was the only mortal sister. She used to be a beautiful woman but Athena cursed her because she was with Poseidon in Athena's temple. Athena turned her long tresses into withering snakes and her perfect teeth short and jagged. Whoever dares to look at her directly in the eyes will be immediately turned to stone.
Perseus had a very hard task. He called Athena, the goddess of wisdom and battle and Hermes, the god of messengers for help. Hermes gave him winged shoes to fly him to the end of the world where the Gorgons lived. Athena gave him a mirrored shield and a cap that made the wearer invisible. Athena also gave him a sword to cut off Medusa's head. Perseus thanked the Olympians for the gifts and their kindness.
Perseus used the winged shoes and flew to the gorgon's lair to find many stone men. Suddenly, Perseus heard the faint sound of hissing snakes. Looking into the shield, Perseus saw Medusa walk slowly near him. Creeping closer, Perseus saw the reflection of the monster and THACK!!! Medusa's head flew off her body.
In the end, Perseus gave the monstrous head to Athena and she molted it on her shield to scare away opponents.

Legends also say, when Perseus sliced off Medusa's head, a perfectly formed horse with wings sprouted from her dying body. That horse is called Pegasus and is a loyal pet of Zeus.
